It happens all the time. People walk out of our float rooms and they are glowing. We often tell our floaters when they come out of their sessions, “You are glowing!”
Many of our clients also comment on how they find they’re looking 10 years younger after their float. Their skin becomes more radiant, smoother and wrinkles seem to disappear.
There are three main reasons for why floating helps you have better skin:
So in essence, by balancing your internal state and improving your health from the inside out, your skin benefits and this shows! This is supported by research indicating that people who have smooth beautiful skin aren’t only viewed by others as being healthier, they actually ARE healthier.
The New York Post recently wrote on how float therapy benefits women (although we don’t discriminate as it benefits men just as much!):
“Women reap the most beneficial rewards. Sessions in a tranquility tank unknot forehead tension and relax tightened strings of the face. ‘I LOOK AND FEEL 10 YEARS YOUNGER,’ is not an uncommon comment. Plastic surgeons have always understood the aging factor of tension. When muscles behind the skin are in stress, they are reflected on the skin’s surface. When tensions are removed, the skin becomes as uncomplicated as a baby’s smooth visage.”
An important reason why floating helps people have radiant skin is the increased mental relaxation and reduction of mental stress. Stress impairs the immune system, which hinders the skin’s ability to heal itself. Some research also indicates chronic stress can reduce the skin’s ability to regulate the inflow and outflow of material. The skin normally prevents the influx of harmful substances into the body. However, research suggests chronic stress might reduce the skin’s ability to keep out toxins, which can lead to skin disease.
Magnesium is absorbed into the body during a float session because the Epsom salt (MgSO4) consists of magnesium sulphate. In other words, when you float you are floating in a sea of millions of magnesium ions. The influx of magnesium helps your skin because it is an important co-factor in biochemical reactions needed for skin repair. The book, “The Magnesium Miracle,” reports on a study in which cells that were deficient in magnesium were twice as likely to experience attacks from free radicals, thereby increasing wrinkles. The upshot of the study was that increasing magnesium reduced wrinkles. Magnesium also reduces skin allergies. If someone is low in magnesium it increases production of histamines, which can lead to skin reactions such as blotches.
The skin is the body’s largest organ, and as such, has an amazing ability to absorb, filter toxins, and deliver nutrients to the body. Absorbing magnesium via the skin is said to be superior to taking oral supplements as taking these via the digestive system generally inhibits assimilation in the body and the magnesium is simply discreted. A damaged gut can also make absorbing magnesium and other minerals through the digestive system more difficult, so trans-dermal absorption are a great solution as the magnesium directly enters the cells and can be used.
With over 1000 pounds of Epsom salt in our float rooms, this provides a highly effective means of detoxification. Float therapy detoxes you at a deep level helping to draw out impurities, toxins and heavy metals – there is no parallel in terms of detoxification. In fact, float therapy is said to to have the equivalent effects of a 3 day fast!
