REIKI

Slider

DURATION: 60 OR 90 MINUTES

Reiki, (pronounced Rey-Key), is an energy healing technique developed in Japan by Mikao Usui. Reiki is a Japanese word that means:  “Spiritual or Sacred Energy.”  We are alive because life force is flowing through us and around us. Also known as Prana or Qi, Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called NadisMeridians and Chakras.  This is known as our Subtle Energy Body System and includes 4 layers:  Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual. This life force system nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. Although not recognized in Western Medicine, it s common knowledge in Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, and other Eastern forms of healing. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the concept of Meridian Energy Channels is the fundamental basis for Acupuncture treatments.

This Subtle Energy Body is responsive to thoughts and feelings. When we are under stress, or in crisis, it becomes disrupted by the intense charge of our emotional state.  And it is affected by the powerful focus of our mental thoughts. This can happen either consciously or unconsciously. Either way, the thoughts and feelings attach themselves to our energy field, and depending on their nature, they can cause a disruption in the flow of life force. Because the Energy Body is like a template for our physical body,  energetic problems can build up over time before manifesting physically. Likewise, old physical problems that won’t clear up, may be aggravated by severe blockages energetically. So not only can negative beliefs and programming manifest as problems in the physical body, they also cause a lot of mental and emotional suffering.

REIKI FOR BALANCING ENERGY

Energy Healing assists us in changing these thoughts and programming. The programs come from many sources such as our ancestors, our current (or past) lifetime, and from Collective Consciousness.  Reiki can help bring us back to wholeness by flowing through the affected areas of the energy field, opening blockages, and charging the entire system with light. This is like cleaning the dirt off a light bulb and increasing the wattage.  By introducing a greater intensity of light through Reiki, the vibratory energy field is raised, causing negative energy to break apart and fall away. Reiki can target the subtle energy of the body, purge stagnant Qi out of the Meridian channels, increase vitality and balance the whole system.  This type of work clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life force to flow in a more free and natural way.  It goes beyond treating symptoms; it seeks out the root energetic cause of the disruption and helps us to process and heal on deeper levels than just addressing physical problems at the physical level. By diving into these deeper layers of our internal truth, we can begin to restore balance to Mind-Body-Spirit and bring joy and peace of mind back into our life.

CHAKRA BALANCING

Chakras (a Sanskrit term & Ayurvedic concept) are the main energy centers in your Subtle Body System.  Many people want to know if “Chakra Balancing” is included in a Reiki session.  The answer is YES.  The chakras of each person are often a storehouse of deeper information telling a story about where the Qi is blocked, and why. They serve as a direct map pointing at the current state of harmony or dysfunction. And they contain knowledge:  An understanding of what the imbalance is about and what the deeper, unfolding spiritual correlation may be.  They also contain the keys to transformation, showing where the energy needs to open, renew and re-align itself.  Reiki naturally works through Chakra issues.

What is it like to receive an Energy Healing treatment?

We each experience Energy Healing in a very personal way. Many people feel a wonderful sense of peace. Others experience a permanent  rising of their consciousness.  Every Reiki experience is unique. Karmic deposits can be rooted out, old emotions can be released, and attachments can be cleared.  How much this happens depends on the degree to which a person has openness, intention, and a willingness to transform. When we are open, receptive, and willing to self-heal, Reiki can be very powerful. It’s an effective way to move through difficulty, access profound realizations and create vibrational change.  Using Energy Work along with other forms of healing can help us to maintain excellent health and well-being.   Some of the results we’ve seen include:

  • Deep and profound levels of relaxation
  • Renewed sense of mental peace
  • Decompression from stress
  • Release of fears and emotional blocks
  • Clearing of old programming & beliefs
  • Higher energetic & spiritual vibration
  • Renewed sense of connection with life
  • Expanded consciousness
  • Release of karmic deposits
  • Clearing of old attachments
  • Increased Awareness, Creativity and Vitality
  • Works in the causal levels of dis-ease and personal problems
  • Helps people remember who they really are

AROMATHERAPY

Slider

AROMATHERAPY | ADDITIONAL $5 PER MASSAGE

Add a scent of your choice to customize your massage.

When combined with massage techniques, aromatherapy can provide an additional level of relaxation and healing. Inhaled scents may work on guests’ minds and emotions to encourage relaxation and stress release. When rubbed into the skin, massage oils containing essential oils (in proper balance) can provide potent relief from pain and inflammation.

BENEFITS

People who experience depression may see improvements when adding aromatherapy massage to their current regimes of psychotherapy and medication. The brain areas responsible for scent, emotion, and memory are closely related. Experts believe certain aromas trigger positive memories and feelings and may contribute to anxiety relief. Everyone has different personal associations with various scents. This, coupled with a certain level of belief in aromatherapy treatments, helps determine the amount of healing a particular person may experience.

Researchers have conducted a number of clinical studies on aromatherapy. They’ve found that essential oils have a positive effect on many people, especially pregnant women (who may not be able to use other forms of relief).

TREATING PAIN AND INFLAMMATION WITH TOPICAL CBD OIL APPLICATION

Topical treatments can be ideal for treating localized pain. These pain treatment products do not enter the blood stream, so there is not the concern of addiction like with narcotics nor NSAID side-effects. Additionally, a hemp-based cannabis treatment will not have the THC cannabinoids, thus eliminating the feeling of “getting high.” A topical anti inflammatory penetrates directly into the skin and work at the cellular level. The C2 receptors send a message to the DNA to produce a protein that reduces inflammation.

Topical treatments, or a topical anti inflammatory, comes in creams, gels, oils and serums. There are topical NSAIDs that have the aspirin concentrated in cream form.

Some examples of topical pain relief products available include:
– Cannabis – CBD oil or hemp root serum
– Cortisone and steroid cream
– Essential oils and holistic treatments such as capsaicin, menthol or camphor
– Topical NSAID

When determining which pain relief treatment option is right for you, listen to your body. Topical treatment may be a good option if your pain is acute or chronic. Always discuss with a health care professional what the best pain management plan might be for you

CBD IS NOT THC
This is not THC Cannabis Oil Massage but CBD Organic Hemp oil. It will not impact your mental state, besides the relaxation and other benefits. There are no THC containing products available at A Better Me.

MASSAGE AFTERCARE

Slider

After receiving a massage, there are a number of actions a client can take to get the most benefit out of the session.   Always remember, if you have any questions regarding massage aftercare, please feel free to contact us at the Spa.

Drink Lots Of Water, Especially For The Next 24 Hours – This is perhaps the most important rule of all.  Hydration is key to a healthy body, especially after a massage.  Since massage promotes lymphatic movement, drinking water and hydrating yourself is key to moving toxins through the kidneys and out of the body.  Drinking water is the best way to do this – and no, water in tea, coffee and soft drinks doesn’t count!

Take A Bath – A nice warm bath is very soothing after a massage, particularly with Epsom Salts.  Epsom Salts are just Magnesium Sulfate, which is a natural muscle relaxer.  They are also wonderful at drawing out toxins in the body, as is massage, so you may get a sort of detoxifying effect which is very beneficial to the body.  Well sell Epsom Salts at the Spa in all kinds of scents!

Pay Attention To Your Body’s Reaction To The Massage – You may be sore after the massage.  This is normal with Deep Tissue massage, but it can happen with the more gentle Swedish Massage as well.  Sometimes you may not feel the soreness until the next day.  Why?  Massage is a sort of passive exercise.  If you are not one to get massages often, or do not exercise and are not used to using the muscles, then they may respond with soreness.  This should only last for a day or perhaps two.  You can help your therapist by stretching before you arrive for your session.  Remember anything that was particularly painful and report this to your therapist at your next visit.  The therapist will be open to what you are saying and will tailor your visit from the information they receive from you.

Rest – You may feel tired, as if you want to lie down and take a nap.  This is completely normal, and you should listen to your body.  If you can, make sure you have nowhere to go and nothing to do after your massage.  Massage is not just work on the body; it is work on the mind too.  It helps to de-stress and relax you; this in turn may make you feel tired.  This is your time to recover your mind and body and it is your body’s time to re-balance itself and re-tune.  Don’t feel like you SHOULD be doing something.  Make time for yourself and your body will thank you.

Welcome Different Emotions – Sometimes, if you have been experiencing lots of stress, you may feel the need to cry after the massage.  Alternatively, you may feel elated, on cloud nine, full of energy.  Either response is normal.  The key is not to try to keep these emotions out.  The massage may channel these feelings and multiply them; whichever way, this is what the body needs.  Let it come and you will feel that much better afterward.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Slider

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT FOR MASSAGE?

Appointments can be scheduled by calling us at 262.408.7597.

DO YOU HAVE A MALE OR FEMALE MASSAGE THERAPIST?

Here, at A Better Me, we only have one female massage therapist. Her name is Sheri and she is amazing!

WHERE WILL MY MASSAGE SESSION TAKE PLACE?

Your bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.  Lighting and temperature in the treatment rooms are also adjustable to fit your personal liking.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST MASSAGE THERAPY VISIT?

Our massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form. If you are a new client, please be sure to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to have time to fill out this form without cutting into any of your actual massage time. If you are a returning client, please show up 10 minutes before your appointment time to go through proper assessment and a thorough intake.  This ensures beginning the session on time and having the full time on the table.

Our massage therapist, Sheri, will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. She may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition.

She will then leave the treatment room for you to have privacy while getting ready for your session. She will knock on the door before she comes in.  Once she is in the room, she will make any necessary adjustments for your comfort before beginning  the session.  Feel free to ask any questions that may come up for you.

At the end of the session, feel free to take a moment on the table to stretch and “come back into your body”.  Once you are up and dressed, your massage therapist will have a glass of water waiting for you.  A conversation about your session will take place in your treatment room and any questions you may have or suggestions from Sheri can be discussed at this time.

WHAT TYPE OF MASSAGE PRESSURE WILL MY THERAPIST BE USING?

The amount of pressure we apply is entirely up to you. Your therapist, we will be asking frequently about the level of pressure to make sure it’s comfortable for you. The goal of every massage is to ease your pain and stress, so the more we communicate, the better the outcome will be for you.

WHAT DO I WEAR DURING THE MASSAGE?

Depending on the primary technique Sheri uses, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear. Sheri will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.

DO YOU GUYS OFFER COUPLES MASSAGES?

Not at the same time as we do only have ONE massage therapist, but we can accommodate couples massage appointments when combined with other services.

WHAT DO I DO DURING THE MASSAGE THERAPY SESSION?

Make yourself comfortable. If Sheri wants you to adjust your position, she will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FALL ASLEEP DURING MY MASSAGE?

It’s quite common for people to fall asleep during relaxing massages. Massage therapists typically take this as a compliment and a sign that they’re providing maximum relaxation to their clients. Enjoy your massage experience and don’t expect yourself to stay awake and alert at all times. Many clients allow their bodies and minds to “reset” in deeply relaxing states.

CAN I STOP THE MASSAGE IF I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE?

Absolutely! You are always in control of your massage therapy session. Feel free to ask your practitioner to pause or stop your massage if you’re uncomfortable with any aspect of this treatment.

IS IT OKAY TO TALK DURING MY MASSAGE THERAPY SESSION?

You should always feel free to express any discomfort when undergoing a massage. However, avoid intense chatting with your massage therapist during your session; this can lead to increased muscular tension and limit the effectiveness of your massage experience.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON TIPPING?

While it is not an obligation to give your massage therapist a gratuity, it is always appreciated.  Gratuities can be given at the time of payment or, if you care to be more discrete, can be left in the treatment room for Sheri after the session.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I RECEIVE A MASSAGE?

For those who use massage as preventative care or to manage daily stress, one massage a month is common. Weekly sessions may be desirable if you are receiving massage for injury relief or to relieve chronic tightness that is interfering with your daily life. There are many people who incorporate massage therapy at least twice a month for optimal therapeutic relief.

SHOULD I COME IN FOR A MASSAGE IF I HAVE A COLD OR THE FLU?

No.  Receiving massage therapy while battling a cold or influenza is never a good idea.  Not only can you easily spread illness to our therapist (who is seeing several other clients per day), but you can also exasperate your symptoms by receiving massage. If you do come in while ill, our therapist may choose to reschedule your session.  Know that this is for your well-being and the health of our therapists and other clients.
